Say Tesla and most people think of electric cars. But Tesla's latest product has no battery, no motor and not even pedals. It's the Balance Bike for Kids, a balance bike for young children.

What is the Tesla Balance Bike for Kids?

A balance bike is a small bike without pedals. Kids sit on the saddle with their feet on the ground and push along with their feet. Once they're comfortable, they lift their feet and glide while balancing.

Tesla introduced the bike in July 2026 through its official online shop.

Did you know? At launch, media reports said the bike was for ages 2 to 5. Tesla's page now lists 2 to 6.

Who can buy it?

For now, the bike is sold on Tesla's US online shop as a pre-order, with deliveries scheduled to start at the end of October. The page also says buyers must sign in with a Tesla account linked to a Tesla vehicle to verify ownership.

There is no official information yet about sales in Malaysia.

Why are some fans disappointed?

Many Tesla fans have long been waiting for an electric bike from the brand. So when what arrived was a kids' bike with no motor, some felt it "wasn't what we asked for".

The price has also been a talking point. Electrek reported that ordinary balance bikes cost around USD50 to USD120, which puts Tesla's model in the premium class alongside brands like Woom and Strider. BikeRadar, however, called the price reasonable compared with other luxury balance bikes made from titanium or carbon.

Why are balance bikes good for kids?

Whatever the brand, balance bikes are popular with parents. According to experts interviewed by the Associated Press:

  • Learn to balance first. Training wheels don't teach kids to balance, so they have to relearn once the wheels come off.
  • Learn to pedal sooner. Sports science professor Cristiana Mercê said studies show balance bike users learn to ride a regular bike faster, and up to two years earlier than kids who use training wheels.
  • Build confidence. Riding from a young age helps coordination, balance, independence and self-confidence.

Experts also advise practising in a safe area and choosing a bike that fits your child's size now, not one that's too big to "grow into".

In short

The Tesla Balance Bike for Kids is a premium balance bike with a magnesium frame, 5 seat heights and a USD225 price tag. It isn't the e-bike fans were hoping for, but it might become a little one's "first Tesla".
